Indigenous Relations Policy
Purpose
Oil Patch AI Systems works with Indigenous-owned contractors, development corporations and joint ventures as clients and partners. This policy sets out how we conduct those relationships. It applies to everyone who works for or on behalf of the company.
Our commitments
- We do not speak for Nations. We never speak for a Nation, a community or Indigenous people in general. Where we refer to an Indigenous organization's views, we quote its own published words and name the source.
- Distinctions-based. First Nations, Métis and Inuit have distinct rights, histories and governance. We ask each client which laws, principles and protocols apply, and we follow them.
- Consent before data. We seek free, prior and informed consent before collecting or using any data about a Nation, its members or its businesses, from the person or body the client names as able to give it.
- Capacity stays in the community. Our work is designed to build skills in the client's own people, so the system can be run without us.
- No tokenism. We do not use a Nation's name, logo or relationship for marketing, bids or reach without written consent. We never present a partnership that does not exist.
- Respect for culture. We do not use regalia, ceremony, sacred sites or cultural symbols in our marketing or imagery.
- Guidance from Indigenous advisors. We retain and pay an Indigenous advisor to review our policies and our content for Nation-owned clients.
- Learning. Everyone who works with Nation-owned clients completes Indigenous awareness training and The Fundamentals of OCAP® course before their first client meeting.
- Procurement. When we buy services, we seek out Indigenous-owned suppliers where they can meet the need.
- Employment. As we grow, we will set and publish targets for Indigenous employment and advancement.
